Things To Ask Your Builder
Before you choose a builder, there are several aspects you need to consider. Having a home built is a big step in life: you want to make sure it is done right, by the right people, and for the right amount of money.
To start, when choosing a builder, get recommendations from people you know. Make a list of builders and get at least three written quotes for your project.
- Ask all the builders where they've worked previously.
- What other projects have they completed?
- Will they let you see their previous work (with the owners permission)?
- Have they done the kind of work you will require of them for your home?
- Are they willing to provide you with references and contact information for those references?
- How recently were these references clients of the builder?
- How does the builder want to be paid: in stages or in full upon completion?
- Will they discount the price if they miss the deadline?
- In case of a dispute, will the builder agree to independant arbitration?
The time to ask questions of your home builder is before anything is signed. Getting the information you need from the builder to make the right decision on who builds your new home is paramount. Making the right choices now will save you lots of money in the future.
